For many people, Christmas is the best time of the year. It gives you a chance to spend more time with the family, eat, drink and be merry. But all that fun can really take its toll on your home by the end of the festive period. There, food, drinks, presents, parties and Christmas trees all taking over your home. That’s why it’s inevitable that your home is going to need a deep clean when it’s all over.

If you’re thinking about how to approach that post-Christmas deep clean you’re in the right place. We’re going to cover the essentials and give you some tips to help you deep clean your home after Christmas, so read on to find out more.

SORT THROUGH THE DECORATIONS

It’s best to create two categories for your decorations as you take them down after Christmas. The first category should be for decorations that you might want to use again in the future. Most people have a core group of decorations that come out each year, and these can be stored securely in your attic or basement. However, you don’t want to fall into the trap of keeping everything, so anything that’s worn out, damaged or disposal should be thrown away to save space.

CLEAN THE INEVITABLE MESS INSIDE THE OVEN

During the Christmas period, you’re probably going to be cooking a lot of food. That’s what the festive period is all about, or one of the things it’s about at least. This is going to hit your oven hard, and even though we know that cleaning the oven is never a fun task, it needs to be done. Scrubbing it works but it tires you out; many people use a steam cleaner instead. It makes it easier work and actually does the job very well. Focus on removing the worst stains and greasy patches.

TACKLE THE CARPETS

Another thing that will most likely take a bit of a battery during the holiday season in your home are the carpets. With all your family coming over and treading things into the floor as the attempt to escape the cold outside, you’re going to need to give it a deep clean to make it look presentable again. You can create your own carpet cleaner to remove dirt and stains using soap, water and hydrogen peroxide if you like. It works a treat.

MAKE ROOM FOR NEW GIFTS AND FIND A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING

No one wants to complain about receiving gifts because giving and receiving is one of the best things about Christmas. However, finding a place for all of the new possessions you’ve managed to gather over the festive period can certainly be a challenge. You should find a spot for each new item so that nothing is left lying around, cluttering your living space. This might mean getting rid of some of your old stuff.

REGAIN CONTROL OF YOUR FRIDGE AND FREEZER

As we’ve already mentioned, food is a major theme over Christmas, and all of the food tends to be stored in the fridge. It’s a miracle how you manage to fit it all in there, so when the holiday season is over, you need to regain control of this space, as well as your freezer space. Use up all the leftovers and come up with recipes for them before they go off and need to be thrown out. And from there, gradually regain control of your fridge and freezer, cleaning it thoroughly in the process.

CLEAN ALL OF THE UPHOLSTERY

It’s certainly wise to clean the upholstery because this can get as dirty as your floor. When you have lots of guests over and they’re all eating and drinking while sitting on your sofas and chairs, there’s inevitably going to be some dropped food and drink spillages occurring. You can use the same solution you used on your carpets for most upholstery.

TIDY WHAT THE TREE LEFT BEHIND

The Christmas tree is the centrepiece of the home for a short period of time, but if you choose the natural option, you’re going to be left with lots of pine needles and other bits of debris seemingly everywhere. Throwing out the tree and cleaning all this up is a big task but it has to be done. A good vacuum cleaner will serve you well here.

Christmas is a time for fun and family, but it can be a relief when you get the chance to tidy it all up and give your house a proper clean after all of the festivities. So make the most of these cleaning tips when the time comes for you to bring Christmas to a close until next December.
